4,700 take part in BM Run

The ‘I Love BM Run 2018,’ organised by Jit Sin  welfare association of partners and SMJK Jit Sin, Bukit Mertajam on July 29, drew about 4,700 participants.

All the participants looked very energised before they started the run from the school.

State Exco for Women and Family Development, Gender Inclusiveness and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Chong Eng, in her closing speech, said that sports activities are essential for good health.

That is why sports can prevent illnesses, especially obesity, she said.

“I understand that our lives today are very challenging and each of us works hard for a living. And  there are those who ignore the importance of good health.

“Therefore, the government, through this programme, aims to remind on the importance of keeping a healthy lifestyle amidst our busy daily routine,” Chong Eng said.

This initiative received strong support from as many as 4,694. Among them, 551 participated in 13km run, 1,287 in the adults’ event and 2,856 in the students’ 6km fun run.

There were a total of eight categories with the top 10 in each category winning the prizes.

The opening ceremony of the event was officiated by Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Steven Sim.
