AirAsia keen on having LCCT in Penang

AirAsia Group has proposed to the Penang government to develop a new Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) at the Penang International Airport (PIA).

AirAsia Group Berhad chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said AirAsia is now connecting Penang to 23 countries.

“We have five international routes and five domestic routes. AirAsia can increase connectivity with domestic and ASEAN destinations and introduce new international routes with the new LCCT in Penang.

“With the LCCT, we hope to increase our planes from five to 16 planes over the next five years; which will bring in about eight million passengers per annum into Penang,” he told Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow during his courtesy visit today.

Also present was AirAsia X Berhad Group chief executive officer and AirAsia Berhad executive chairman Datuk Kamarudin Meranun.
