Training on emotional intelligence for youths

PENANG Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) will collaborate with Universiti Sains Malaysia senior lecturer Dr Yeoh Kar Kheng to offer a one-day training on ‘Emotional Intelligence: Leadership & Performance’.

The training will be held at The Classroom, The Whiteaways Arcade in Lebuh Pantai, George Town on Sept 28 from 9am to 5pm.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the programme would help the youths to enhance their knowledge and skills to become better leaders in the future.

“The objective is to nurture them to be future leaders with adequate knowledge as well as to help them increase productivity throughout their daily lives. This will result in increasing the happiness index in Penang, which is in line with Penang2030 vision,” Soon told a press conference at Komtar on Aug 15.

“Emotional intelligence involves the ability to understand and manage one’s own emotions as well as to recognise and influence the emotions of those around you,” explained Soon.

“Emotional intelligence can be the most effective tool for all. It helps to boost self-awareness, self-control, motivation, empathy and social skills.”

Also present was PYDC general manager Thoy Siew Ping.

Thoy said the programme would guide the youths to have a productive performance at work and to learn about emotional management.

Those interested in the programme have to register by Sept 15. The participation fee is RM80/pax (inclusive of lunch and tea break).
