A chance to be heard

THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has received a total of 54,459 appeals for an assessment tax review.

MBPP mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang said the number of appeals were equivalent to 16.88%.

He said those who appealed would be given a chance to be heard.

“The hearing sessions on the island will be held at three locations – Komtar, City Hall and the Balik Pulau sports complex.

“Most of the appeals are from condominium and landed property owners,” he told a press conference after the MBPP meeting at City Hall today.

Earlier, MBPP financial management committee alternate chairman Gooi Seong Kin said the financial management committee has approved the setting up of three Appeal Sub-Committees.

“The three sub-committees involve all 24 councillors; each sub-committee to be stationed at each of the said locations,” Gooi said.
