A joyous CNY celebration at SPICE Arena

TRADITIONAL Chinese orchestra, electrifying lion dance performances and visitors clad in colourful attires set the mood for a lively Chinese New Year celebration at the Setia SPICE Arena.

Thousands of visitors thronged the Chinese New Year open house organised by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow this afternoon. They were treated to a wide array of scrumptious food.

Yee Sang preparation with symbolic design which signifies the ‘Year of the Rat’

Chow presented red packets to the residents from various charity homes, who were the special guests at the event.

“I am happy to see everyone enjoying the celebration.

“The state government will continue with its efforts to care for the well-being of its people,” Chow told the media after the event.

Penang Governor Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas was the guest of honour at the function. Also present were Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman, Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr. P. Ramasamy, Penang Island City Council mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang, state executive councillors and state assemblymen.

The dignitaries took part in the traditional yee sang tossing ceremony, wishing for an abundance of prosperity and happiness.
