A DAZZLING display of nearly 300 vibrant Chinese lanterns now adorns the streets of Pulau Tikus, within the Pulau Tikus state constituency, in celebration of the upcoming Chinese New Year.
The glowing lanterns light up Jalan Pasar, Jalan Burma and Solok Moulmein, transforming the area into a lively festive corridor filled with colour, warmth and cultural charm, drawing both residents and visitors into the joyful spirit of the season.

The ceremonial lighting of the lanterns was held earlier today and officiated by Pulau Tikus assemblyman Joshua Woo Sze Zeng, together with Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Koay Gaik Kee.
In his speech, Woo highlighted the deeper meaning behind the annual initiative.

“Lanterns are a powerful symbol of unity. They remind us to preserve our heritage while celebrating the diversity that defines us as Penangites.
“We organise these decorations every year to honour the multiracial harmony in our state, especially here in Pulau Tikus. After Chinese New Year, we will continue with Hari Raya lighting in various areas of the constituency,” he said.
Woo added that the lantern installation project cost approximately RM60,000, with contributions from his state constituency office, the Bukit Bendera parliamentary constituency office, councillor Koay and a private company.
