YOUNGSTERS, are you looking for a good platform to grow digitally? Then quickly get yourself registered with the ‘Digitalise Penang for Youth Programme’ organised by Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd.

The programme is offered to 1,000 eligible youngsters all over Malaysia, primarily targeting secondary school students, college and university students between 15 and 35 years old.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee, who launched the programme via Zoom today, has called upon all youngsters to seize the opportunity so that they could keep abreast with the current digital landscape.

“This pandemic has led to an inevitable surge in adopting digital technologies and at the same time speeding up the rate of digitalisation.

“Our youth need to adapt to this change of environment quickly, so that they can grow and remain resilient throughout this tough time. We do not know when this will be over.

“I believe the launching of this digitalisation programme is timely and will be a boost in developing our youth for the future.

“Come and take up this opportunity to prevent from lagging behind post pandemic,’’ said Soon, adding that the programme was also in line with the Penang2030 vision which emphasises the fostering of digital community in Penang.

Soon added that if the programme gets an overwhelming response, then Exabytes would consider extending it to another 1,000 participants.

The ‘Digitalise Penang For Youth programme’ will be fully sponsored by Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd and supported by the state government, through the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC).

Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd chief executive officer and founder Chan Kee Siak said Exabytes has allocated a budget of RM500,000 for digital solution products and services to start ‘Digitalise Penang for Youth Programme’.

“This our latest CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) campaign to nurture and support youth in their digitalisation journey.

“This initiative will provide these young talents with the insights of what they will be facing in the corporate world.

“It is also a step forward in our effort to empower youth in Penang with digitalisation and give them opportunities to grow digitally and to leave a meaningful footprint in the industry.

“Aside from that, it is also critical in supporting the Malaysian tech industry,’’ said Chan during the launch.

Chan said that according to the National Statistics Department Malaysia, youths aged between 15 and 39, make up a total of 45% of the country’s population.

“For the year 2019, the population of youths in Penang was 27.2% of the total estimated population. This demographic group is critical in guiding and shaping Malaysia’s future, especially in the digital arena,’’ said Chan.

Chan also added that the Exabytes had previously collaborated with colleges and universities in Penang to organise various programmes.

“We wanted to make it bigger and reach out to more youngsters and that is why we have come up with the programme.

“Anyone can join the digitalisation programme regardless of the field of study that they are pursuing,” he said.

Exabytes senior vice president for marketing, Vickson Tan said the programme encompasses the learning of relevant digitalisation skills, namely domain setup, web hosting plan, and VPS (virtual private server).
