SPEAKING to the hundreds of participants of the “I Love Penang Morning Walk” at Youth Park on Oct 28, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng advised the people to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Stressing that prevention is better than cure, Lim advised the people to exercise more often and cut down on sugar and carbohydrates intake to avoid getting diabetes.

“I drink only plain black coffee and avoid rice if possible. While I personally don’t suffer from diabetes, yet my sugar level is still alarming. Imagine those who seldom exercise and don’t restrain when it comes to food and drinks,” he said.

The “I Love Penang Morning Walk” event comes in a series that is organised in each of the five districts in the state by the respective district and land offices.

The one which took place on Oct 28 at Youth Park was for Penang’s Northeast district and its success was attributed to the organising efforts of the Chief Assistant District Officer (Development) Nurshamshinaz Shamsuddin.

The event served to promote awareness and healthy living which is in line with the Cleaner, Greener, Healthier and Safer Penang conceptualised by the state government.

According to the chief minister, the participation of people with special needs is also greatly encouraged, for the promotion of social cohesiveness and inclusiveness amongst different segments of the community.
