AN opening balloting ceremony for 200 new home-owners was held today at Sunway Property Sales Gallery@Anson which was graced by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

The eligible applicants whose names were provided by the Housing Department were invited to the open balloting process for their first home priced at RM42,000 per unit.

The low cost homes, namely Desa Kayu Manis and Rumah Pangsa Harmoni are adjacent to Sunway Cassia in Batu Maung on the island and Sunway Wellesly at Bukit Mertajam on the mainland.

Chow, who attended as the guest of honour, said that Sunway Property as a reputable Master Community Developer is undertaking the Build-Then-Sell (BTS) concept for these low cost developments. It helps to benefit the low-income earners in saving on the installment interests.

“Currently, there are 30,726 people on the waiting list to buy low and low medium cost units and 12,326 for other categories, with a majority of them on the island.

“In bringing Penang to greater heights, the state government is always keen on its Vision Penang2030 where the state on improving liveability, economy, civil participation and balanced development to achieve a family-focused green and smart vision for the state,” Chow said.

There were also around 100 new-home owners who gathered excitedly during the balloting ceremony.

Chow also joined for a short tour after the launching at Sunway Property office and was briefed by their delegates on upcoming development projects.

“Sometimes developers ask to provide contributions instead of physically building. The government will consider why they cannot build and prefer to make the contributions. Later, the contributions will put in the ‘Tabung Perumahan’ and will finance some of the project using the ‘tabung’ contributed by the developers. While the developers cannot build, they are required to do a monetary contribution which is now getting very high,” he added.
