IN anticipation of the Chinese New Year festival this Saturday, the popular tourist spots in Kek Lok Si Temple and Penang Hill are expected to attract an influx of tourists.

Air Putih assemblyman Lim Guan Eng foresees a rise in the number of tourists ahead of the celebration.

“Coinciding with the school holidays, many locals will seize this opportunity to visit Penang. Therefore, I urge the residents, especially in Air Putih, to be patient with the expected congestion.

“Aside from this, thousands of red lanterns have been hung along the streets from Air Putih to Penang Hill. On top of that, Kek Lok Si Temple has also contributed lanterns to usher in the Year of the Dragon.

“The lanterns symbolise a joyful and festive atmosphere,” he said at his service centre in Air Putih today.

Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng called the motorists to abide by the traffic rules.

“Starting Feb 8, the police and the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) officers will monitor the traffic situation around Air Itam and its vicinity,” he said, urging the public to use public transport during this period.

Earlier, Lim handed out food baskets to 20 B40 families from his constituency.
