THE Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) today announced the nine winners of the “JomPAY and Win” campaign, which was held from Jan 1 to April 30.

The first prize comprised of an iPad worth RM5,000 while the other eight winners walked away with an Apple Watch each.

The campaign, jointly organised by PBAPP, JomPAY operator Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Paynet) and CIMB Bank, was aimed at encouraging more PBAPP customers to use the JomPAY portal to perform contactless payment during this Covid-19 pandemic.

PBAPP chief executive officer Datuk Jaseni Maidinsa said that customers have been using the JomPAY facility since it was introduced as one of the payment channels in January 2019.

“The response has very encouraging.

“Last year, a total of RM69 million was collected via the portal; while this year, from Jan 1 until June 30, RM50 million has already been collected.

“This shows that the public have adapted well and already made contactless payment part of their lives during this Covid-19 pandemic,” he said during the campaign’s prize giving ceremony in Komtar today.

He also said that the facility (JomPAY) had benefited 631,250 registered water consumers with online banking access in Penang.

First prize winner, a Penang police officer Muhamad Radzi Mat Isa was caught speechless after bagging the top prize. He did not expect to win.

“I want to play my part and embrace the new normal. The JomPAY initiative by PBAPP is a good effort by the Penang government in its battle against the Covid-19,” he said in an interview.

Also present were PBA Holdings Berhad (PBAHB) chief financial officer Dr Mary Ann Harris and CIMB Corporate Banking Malaysia and Northern Region director Sureen Chin Wai Lin.
