Another feather in the cap for Penang

PENANG is proud to be listed among the top 15 best islands in the world to retire in 2021 by International Living Magazine, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

“This is not the first time Penang has been picked as a place for retirement and other recognitions,” Chow said in response to a question by a reporter who wanted to know his reaction on the selection of Penang as one of the favourite retirement destinations.

“We’re aware that Penang has many attractions such as food, culture, quality lifestyle, good medical services and happy people.

“The cost of living is still affordable compared to other cities. Besides lifestyle, activities, food and amenities, weather sometimes is among the other factors.

“We’re proud of that recognition. For us, it’s a long-term process to keep Penang as a place for sustainable living, lifestyle, arts and culture, and sports.”

The magazine, which has been covering overseas retirement trends for more than 40 years, released their latest picks based on criteria such as the ability to live a simpler, more peaceful life – without breaking the bank.

It ranks Penang third among the top 15 best islands to retire, behind first-placed Malta and second-placed Mallorca (Spain).

They are followed by Ambergris Caye (Belize), Ireland, Roatan (Honduras), Isla Mujeres (Mexico), Isla Colon (Panama), Bali (Indonesia), Koh Samui (Thailand), Las Terrenas (Dominican Republic), Crete (Greece), Cozumel (Mexico), Caye Caulker (Belize) and Phu Quoc (Vietnam).
