BUDDHIST Tzu-Chi Merits Society Malaysia has stepped in to enhance patient care at Penang Hospital with the donation of 105 new hospital beds and 35 side tables.
The contribution was made after the organisation was made aware of challenges faced by the hospital due to aging equipment, including beds with broken side railings and mechanical faults that hinder safe patient handling.
The donation was made in collaboration with Hotayi Electronic (M) Sdn Bhd, Gan Chai Leng Sdn Bhd, Magri Foods Sdn Bhd, as well as other individual donors.
Its commissioner Datuk Khoo Boo Leong said the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to compassionate care and community service.
“We were informed that some of the existing beds are no longer in optimal condition, which can affect both patient comfort and the ability of healthcare workers to carry out their duties safely.
“Through this contribution, we hope to ease the burden on the hospital and provide patients with a safer and more supportive environment during their treatment,” he said.
Khoo added that the foundation will continue working with partners and donors to support public healthcare institutions and uplift community well-being.
The new beds, complete with mattresses, together with the side tables, are expected to enhance patient comfort and improve the overall efficiency of care delivery at the hospital.
Meanwhile, Penang Hospital director Dr Goh Hin Kwang expressed appreciation for the contribution, describing it as timely and meaningful.
“The management of Penang Hospital wishes to express its deepest gratitude to Tzu Chi for their generous donation of 105 hospital beds and mattresses, alongside 35 side tables.
“Ensuring the safety and dignity of our patients is our highest priority. This timely contribution significantly alleviates the challenges posed by our aging equipment, allowing our medical teams to provide care with greater ease and efficiency.

“More importantly, it provides our patients with the physical comfort and security they deserve during their recovery.
“We are truly moved by Tzu Chi’s unwavering spirit of compassion and their commitment to the well-being of the Penang community. This partnership serves as a beautiful reminder of how collective kindness can strengthen our healthcare system,” he said.
