Bukit Mertajam MP disgusted over criticisms for helping a delivery rider

BUKIT Mertajam MP Steven Sim today could not hide his disappointment that his noble intention to assist a 22-year-old foodpanda rider was politicised.

The two-term MP told reporters that his generosity in buying a motorcycle for the rider two weeks ago had drawn criticisms from certain quarters.

“There were all kind of claims alleging my deed was to gain publicity.

“As an MP, my duty is to assist those in need of help regardless of race and religion. In fact, I am using my own money to purchase the motorcycle.

“I am saddened by the unscrupulous attacks that were hurled at me.

“I am a politician; it’s alright for me to be attacked but there are limitations,” said the former deputy Youth and Sports Minister at a press conference in his service centre today.

Also present was the rider, Anas Hazmi Ahmad.

Anas said he was thankful to Sim for the assistance rendered to him and he hoped that the whole brouhaha would be put to rest.

“Let’s move on from here and stop the baseless attacks,” he pleaded.
