Call for more blood and organ donors

ABLE-BODIED people have been urged to come forward to donate blood and organs.

Pulau Betong assemblyman Mohd Tuah Ismail made this call when he visited the blood donation campaign at the Kolej Vokasional Balik Pulau (KVBP) in Balik Pulau yesterday.

“This blood donation programme is not limited to race or religion. We don’t differentiate blood. We want to nurture a caring society to help save precious lives,” Mohd Tuah said in his speech.

“We’re aiming for more blood and organ donors. In order to have sufficient blood bank, it is important for the people to stay healthy so that they can contribute to the campaign.

“Many are suffering from diabetes. So, it is very important for us as a community to look after our health and reduce sugar intake. This has often been stressed by the state government.

“I urge the community to practise good eating habits and undergo regular health screening.”

Mohd Tuah expressed his gratitude to the KVBP students, lecturers, government departments, army personnel and nearby schools that were involved in the campaign.

He said the programme has helped create awareness among the students to take part in charitable activity.

A total of 106 took part as blood donors and 31 as organ donors.

The programme, which ran from 9.30am to 3pm, also included health screening, BMI test, blood pressure check and blood test.
