Campaign to help entrepreneurs on post moratorium loan repayment

THE Penang government, in collaboration with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Penang branch, will organise a two-day programme to help entrepreneurs and individuals on loan repayment flexibility after the moratorium ends on Sept 30.

State International and Domestic Trade, Consumer Affairs and Entrepreneurship Development Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain said the programme would be held on Sept 12-13 at RAIA Hotel (formerly known as Hotel Tabung Haji) from 10am to 6pm for them to renegotiate with their respective banks.

“We’ll have a total of 17 banks and eight related agencies, including Bank Negara, participating in the programme.

“It’s a one-stop centre for individuals and SMEs to seek advice and assistance from the banks and related agencies,” Abdul Halim told a press conference in Komtar today.

Abdul Halim says during these tough times, they are helping entrepreneurs and individuals to renegotiate their loan repayment with banks.

The banks are Affin Bank, AmBank, CIMB Bank, Hong Leong Bank, Maybank, Public Bank, RHB Bank, UOB Bank, OCBC Bank, Bank Islam, Bank Muamalat, MBSB Bank, Bank Rakyat, AGRO Bank, SME Bank, BSN and Alliance Bank while the agencies are CGC, Tekun, Amanah Ikhtiar, AKPK, SME Corp, PDC, PTPTN and Penang Halal International.

However, for those who lost their jobs during the Covid-19 pandemic, Abdul Halim said the Federal Government had announced that they would be given a moratorium of another three months until Dec 31.

Abdul Halim also said a briefing on incentives for entrepreneurs would be held on Sept 12 from 9.30am to 11.30am by four agencies, namely Penang Development Corporation, Penang Halal International, SMECorp and Bank Negara Malaysia.

The briefing is open to the public and those interested can register online at https://rb.gy/5mxnck.

Those who want to attend the programme are encouraged to register for free or call 04-2619280 for more information.

Also present at the press conference were Bank Negara Malaysia (Penang) manager Abdul Hamid Akbar Ali, Association of Banks Malaysia (ABM) Northern chapter chairman Zolkefli Awang and Komtar Maybank manager Zulkifli Mohamad.
