Car-free Sundays in Seberang Perai

Story by Chan Lilian

PENANG Island City Council (MBPP) Car-Free Day which was implemented a few years ago has become a very popular morning activity for a healthy lifestyle.
Now the Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) has followed suit by launching the Seberang Perai Car-Free morning.

Beginning May 3, part of Jalan Todak 2 and Jalan Todak 3 in Seberang Jaya measuring about 490 metres will be closed on the first Sunday of every month for fun-filled activities suitable for the whole family.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng together with several exco members and assemblymembers joined MPSP chief Datuk Maimunah Shariff and the people of Seberang Perai to participate in the activities.
Lim and the other VIPs sportingly took part in the zumba exercise and visited the various government and NGO booths and met the people.

“This Car Free Morning is not only for recreation but also to reduce the rakyat’s reliance on motorised vehicles. This is in line with Penang’s Cleaner, Greener, Healthier and Safer lifestyle,” Lim said in his speech.
Families and friends indeed had a good time cycling around the area while working up a sweat on the sunny and bright morning.
