WITH the aim of raising funds to provide free cataract surgeries for underprivileged patients, particularly those from the B40 community, OasisEye Health will organise a Health Carnival and Charity Fun Run on Jan 25 (Sunday) next year.

Organised by OasisEye Health and co-organised by the Leo Clubs and Lions Clubs, the OasisEye Health Carnival & Charity Fun Run will take place from 7am to 3pm at Setia Fontaines, Kepala Batas.

OasisEye Health Carnival and Charity Fun Run advisor Datuk Dr Haslina Mohd Ali said cataracts remain one of the leading causes of preventable blindness in Malaysia.

“Many individuals, especially those from lower-income groups, delay or even avoid treatment due to financial constraints.

“This programme aims to remove that barrier by ensuring that vision-restoring surgery is accessible to those who need it most,” she said.

Dr Haslina added that the event will feature a full day of health-focused and family-friendly activities, including a charity fun run, free health and eye screenings, a blood donation drive, the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) awareness bus, as well as lucky draws.

She was speaking at a press conference held at Komtar today.

Also present were Penang Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen and OasisEye Health Carnival and Charity Fun Run advisor Dr Lee Wen Yee.

Meanwhile, Gooi said the initiative goes beyond restoring sight, as it helps individuals regain their confidence, productivity and overall quality of life.

Gooi said the initiative goes beyond restoring sight, as it helps individuals regain their confidence, productivity and overall quality of life.

“When we help one person to see again, we uplift an entire family,” he said.

Gooi also expressed his appreciation to OasisEye Specialists, led by Dr Haslina and Dr Lee, for championing the meaningful initiative.

“Your commitment to community outreach and accessible eye care is truly commendable,” he said, adding that he also lauded the Leo and Lions Clubs for their strong spirit of volunteerism and long-standing dedication to humanitarian service.

“This partnership demonstrates what can be achieved when professionals, youth groups, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and government agencies come together with a shared purpose,” he added.

Gooi encouraged the public to join, participate or contribute in any way possible.

“Every step taken and every ringgit donated will help restore someone’s vision and give them renewed hope,” he said.

Members of the public who are experiencing vision problems or who require cataract surgery but face financial difficulties are encouraged to approach OasisEye Specialists. The organising team will assist and make the necessary arrangements.
