THE Chinese New Year celebration came early for some 2,000 senior citizens who received red packets from Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting Society Penang.

The recipients, including those from Penang Home for the Infirm and Aged, Little Sisters of the Poor, Relau Charis Home and Silver Jubilee Home, were brimming with joy during the ceremony at the premises today.

Twelve charitable organisations also received RM15,000 each from the society.

The society’s general affairs section manager Choong Yit Chuan said that Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting had been giving out red packets to the senior citizens for over 10 years.

“The red packet distribution is done twice a year. Meanwhile, the donation for the 12 charitable organisations was from the amount collected during the 2018 Harmony Charity Food Fair,” he said.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that it was a blessed privilege for those with means to be of service to the aged and underprivileged.

“I applaud Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting Society Penang for its unwavering assistance towards the needy.

“The truth remains that there are many underprivileged people among us. We must try our best to help them,” Chow said.

Chow added that through caring, these contributors were giving hope to the needy.

Also present was Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting Society Penang president Datuk Lim Cheah Chooi.
