WITH his second and final term set to conclude in 2028, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has pledged to leave office with Penang in a strong financial position, including RM1 billion in reserves.
During his winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly sitting today, Chow said he aimed to restore the state’s consolidated revenue account to the RM1 billion mark by the end of his tenure.
“I hope to hand over the reins to my successor with the state in a strong financial position — battle-ready with RM1 billion in reserves,” Chow told the assembly.
Chow, who succeeded Lim Guan Eng as the fifth Chief Minister of Penang in May 2018, began his second term following the state election in August 2023.
Recognised as a steady implementer and leader, Chow remains committed to advancing several major infrastructure projects over the next three years, including the Mutiara Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line, Silicon Island, the Penang International Airport expansion, and the Penang Hill Cable Car project.
