CARETAKER Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has called upon party leaders from Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional on the island and mainland to focus on and set up a strong election machinery in preparation for the upcoming state election on Aug 12.

Chow, who is also Penang PH and DAP chairman, said PH and BN must not take the upcoming election lightly after Perikatan Nasional’s strong showing in the last 15th General Election.

“This election must not be taken lightly, and as a unity government now, we have to work as a team to ensure voters that this government is for transformation and change for the better.

“A fresh mandate will be put forth for the people, and we have a renewed responsibility of making sure Penang progresses and continues to grow and prosper for the people.

“This election is also important for our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his unity government.

“It is important for the people to know that this unity government promises a stable and strong government for the people and the country,” Chow said in his speech during the Penang DAP fundraising dinner at SJKC Shang Wu in Air Itam today.

The dinner aimed to raise funds to support the party in organising various activities that have been lined up for the election, such as preparing materials and other essentials during future campaigns.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, who was present during the dinner, received a mock cheque for RM500,000 from Chow courtesy of Penang DAP to the national leadership to assist in its election campaigns and related activities.

Chow said the contribution was made to enable the national leadership to assist other DAP-led states in its activities.

“As our state assembly has been dissolved, therefore, it is clear we are not able to tap into the government resources to carry out such activities.

“That is why tonight’s dinner is very important because based on whatever amount we are to raise, it will be very helpful in our objective of delivering our messages to the people of Penang,” Chow added.

Relatively, after having seen Penang led by PH for three terms in a row, Chow said a fresh mandate was vital to ensure the coalition continues with its mission to deliver results for the people.

“The Penang2030 vision is a good example of a path to success that we have embarked on since 2018.

“Under this vision, we focus on various aspects of development, including economy, industry, social initiatives, the green economy, welfare, housing, and more.

“This is why I would like to urge all the voters to once again allow us to govern Penang and make this place even greater than it already is,” Chow said.

Among others present who delivered speeches were Loke, Penang DAP secretary Lim Hui Ying, deputy chairman Prof Dr P. Ramasamy, PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.
