PENANG Pakatan Harapan (PH) is confident to retain the state in the upcoming state election, says state PH chairman Chow Kon Yeow.

Chow, who is also the caretaker Chief Minister, said the upcoming state election would be very competitive.

“However, with a proven track record during the 15 years of PH administration in Penang and our cooperation with Barisan Nasional (BN) under the spirit of unity government at the Federal level, we are confident to retain Penang to continue administering the state for the fourth term.

“Not only that, but I am confident that the PH-BN coalition will continue retaining the other two states, namely Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

“At the same time, we are confident to spring a ‘surprise’ in Kedah and also perform well in Kelantan and Terengganu.

“All of this will be possible with the rakyat’s strong support towards the PH-BN coalition.

“We are confident of getting the people’s support as the PH-BN coalition is different. We choose unity and reject division,” Chow said in his fiery speech during the launch of ‘Jentera Perpaduan’ (unity government election machinery) at the Expo Site in Seberang Jaya tonight.

Among those who gave their speeches tonight were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the PH national chairman, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the BN chairman, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook, DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng, Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and Penang Umno chairman Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir.

Chow said with the state election just around the corner, it is important for every component party in the PH-BN coalition to prepare their election machinery.

“We must work very hard to prevent a ‘green wave’ in Penang and we must prevent them from winning a single seat in the state.

“It is not going to be easy but I am confident that the PH-BN coalition can do it with a proper strategy and coordination,” Chow added.

Loke said it is time for the people regardless of race and religion to unite under the spirit of unity government at the Federal level to rebuild Malaysia and bring the country to greater heights.

Meanwhile, Anwar said during the eight months of PH-BN coalition administration at the Federal level, not a single minister was found to be involved in any corruption case.

“Since sworn in as a Prime Minister in December last year, I have told the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki not to hesitate to take action against any minister in the unity government if there is any element of corruption and wrongdoing.

“And I am glad to know that Tan Sri Azam Baki has told me that until now, MACC did not find any element of corruption among the ministers.

“This proves the current Federal Government leadership is clean and free from any corruption.

“I will not interfere in any court cases involving politicians, let the court function based on the rule of law,” he said.
