SENIOR citizens at the Little Sisters of the Poor along Batu Lancang Lane were treated to a heartwarming Christmas celebration today, complete with a lively dance session with Santa Claus, cheerful Christmas carols and a series of interactive games that brought smiles and laughter to all present.

The festive gathering was an annual event jointly organised by the Air Itam state constituency and the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary constituency offices in collaboration with private sector partners.

Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng Soon Siang said the occasion was more than just a celebration, describing the home as a place that belongs to everyone.

Ng said the occasion was more than just a celebration, describing the home as a place that belongs to everyone.

“This is not just a home for the elderly, but a home for all of us, because one day we too will grow old. Today, we are celebrating something very meaningful together,” he said in his speech.

“I feel truly blessed to have so many volunteers celebrating with us and supporting this programme. We come here almost every year and not only during Christmas.

“Sometimes we even bring durian parties here,” he said, adding that local delicacies were shared as a gesture of care and togetherness with the residents.

He also took the opportunity to remind younger generations not to forget their parents as they age.

“Life is a cycle. We will all grow old eventually. When our parents grow old, we should appreciate them and take care of them. Only when there is truly no other choice should they come to stay in a home like this,” he said.

Ng urged everyone to cherish their loved ones and the moments they share.

“Treasure what you have today and remember what you once cherished, so that we can continue to share love and joy with one another,” he said, while thanking parents who brought their children to perform during the event.

He also encouraged the public to continue supporting the home through donations and contributions.

“For those who wish to donate, just come to the home and contribute in any way you can. The mothers and sisters here will welcome you with open arms,” he added.

Also present at the event was Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh.
