THE Penang government has allocated RM50,000 to St John Britto Church in Sungai Pinang for upgrading works.

State Local Government, Housing and Town Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo announced the allocation, which is meant for upgrading the church’s facilities.

“I have received a request from Father Edmund, who is the church’s parish priest.

“We know that the church is in need of some improvement to its premises and I hope this allocation will assist them,” he said in his speech when attending the church’s Christmas open house in Sungai Pinang on Saturday.

On top of that, the church also received RM20,000 from Jelutong MP R.S. N. Rayer’s parliamentary allocation.

Jagdeep said the state has been assisting the places of worship all this while.

“We want to make sure all the places of worship are given priority,” he said.

Rayer, who was present at the ceremony, said he was delighted to witness all faiths coming together to celebrate the festival in a meaningful manner.

“I hope that everyone can enjoy themselves in this event,” he said.

Those present were treated to an array of food and stage performances.
