CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow has hinted that a new State Administrative Centre is being planned on Penang Silicon Island.
When approached by reporters in an event at Amari SPICE Penang earlier, Chow explained that the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) has been appointed to assist with architectural planning, land use studies, and assessing the space requirements of various government agencies.
“The proposed centre will not be large because the space available to the state is only around seven acres.
“With height controls in place, it will not be built like Komtar.
“So, Komtar will still house existing offices,” he added.
The Chief Minister also indicated that the land for the centre is expected to be ready by 2028, after which construction can begin.
“Now the planning, the architecture planning has already started. But the land will be ready in 2028. So when the land is ready, then construction can start,” he said.
Chow also shared updates on the wider Silicon Island development.
The land for the Penang LRT Mutiara Line depot will also be handed over to Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) soon, paving the way for construction to begin once the site is ready,” said Chow, noting that topside development will kick off this year, starting with the LRT depot.
He also added that the project’s planning has integrated best practices, including ESG and SDG principles, supported by technology that ensures investors and developers have access to transparent information.
According to Chow, Industrial plots will be released to investors in phases, backed by incentives from the Ministry of Finance.
