CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow hopes the Federal Government will explain the rationale behind its decision to ban the use of Waze among civil servants.

He said the move has drawn reactions from members of the public, with many questioning why the popular navigation application is being prohibited.

Chow said Waze has become an important tool for motorists, helping them identify alternative routes, navigate traffic congestion and reach their destinations more conveniently.

“The public want to know why Waze is being banned, even if it is meant for civil servants,” he said when asked by reporters on the sidelines of the Penang International Science Fair (PISF) 2026 media conference at Penang Science Cluster (PSC) in George Town.

He said a clear explanation would help address public concerns over the decision.

Chow said civil servants in the state have probably received the directive banning the use of Waze.
