Come enjoy GTF performance at Desa Mawar neighbourhood park

AIR ITAM folk and those residing in their vicinity will get a chance to enjoy an hour open-air community performance at the Desa Mawar neighbourhood park on July 19.

Known as the ‘Jom! Pi Holland!’ performance, it is held in conjunction with the George Town Festival (GTF) this month.

It offers festival-goers a chance to enjoy the community event amid the sights and sounds of a local neighbourhood.

Production manager Julio Lee said the residents in the vicinity can attend the event with their families and friends to enjoy the casual and relaxing performance at 8.30pm.

“The performance offers residents the experience of enjoying performing arts in their neighborhood.

“The storyline of the screening features three persons, who were keen to visit Holland, but were unable to make it due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They were then trapped in the airport.

The event which will take place next Tuesday.

“Hence, we would like to let the public to understand the situation during the lockdown and we aim to emphasise the importance of human interaction and engagement between each other after the pandemic,” he said during a press conference at a community centre in Desa Mawar today.

Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng said this would be the first time that an event under GTF be held in his constituency.

“The recently-concluded Macallum Rooftop Concert under GTF had attracted visitors from all walks of life.

“Hence, this ‘Jom! Pi Holland!’ event will be an eye-opener for Air Itam constituents as well.

“They can come and enjoy with their families and loved ones while those keen to attend are encouraged to bring their chairs and floor mats as well for comfort,” he said, adding that a screen projector with theaters equipment would be placed at the park as well.

Festival-goers are also advised to observe strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the event.

Admission is free.

Among those present at the press conference were Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillors Lee Wei Seang, Tan Soo Siang and project director Zhuoyou.
