PARKS play an important role in bringing the community of a neighbourhood closer as well as instilling in them the sense of ownership.

“’My Seri Delima’ project is part of the manifesto stated in the GE-14 for the neighbourhood of Seri Delima.

“As all of you know, the Penang2030 vision emphasises the importance of a family focus, green and smart state to inspire the nation. So, speaking in a smaller scale ‘My Seri Delima’ is in line with the vision.

“I believe one of the best ways to nurture a sense of ownership and to foster unity among the community is by gathering in the parks such as this and getting engaged with the recreational activities,” said Seri Delima assemblyman Syeerlena Abdul Rashid at the Jalan Gangsa Community Park today.

According to Syeerlena, the Jalan Gangsa Community Park is among the many parks in the constituency to be involved in the upgrading work.

“Earlier, we have built the ‘Pergola Roof’ at a cost RM33,900 borne by the council (Penang Island City Council – MBPP) and also the ramp (RM14,196) with the intention of providing a conducive environment for all.

“This place (Seri Delima) has got many beautiful parks. Hence, I felt that it was important to give a face lift so as to encourage more people to use our parks here.

“Apart from upgrading the facilities in the constituency, we are also concerned with the safety of the residents and are working on installing CCTVs,” added Syeerlena.

The ‘My Seri Delima’ project was officially launched in the presence of MBPP secretary Addnan Mohd Razali, who was the chief guest of the ceremony.

Apart from that, Syeerlena also shared her plans for other parts of the Seri Delima constituency.

“There is a beautiful river nearby the Japanese Garden which we plan to beautify. The unique attraction of the river is its wooden bridge which we are planning to upgrade with an estimated cost of RM15,000 to RM16,000.

“We have already made several site visits to the place together with the council and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID),” she said.

Some Tecoma trees were also planted at the event as a step towards the green initiative.

“I would request MBPP to provide rubbish bins and recycling bins at the parks to maintain their cleanliness,” Syeerlena said.
