Coordination Committee to strengthen ties between Penang and other cities

THE Penang Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage (PETACH) office has set up the Sister City and Friendship City Coordination Committee to look into strengthening ties with potential cities.

State Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the Sister City and Friendship City Coordination Committee was set up in February this year.

“Currently, Penang has formed four ‘Sister City’ ties with cities abroad. We have also established 15 ‘Friendship City’ bonds and one ‘Friendly Cooperative Relations’.

“These relationships have benefitted both Penang and the cities concerned in terms of economy, science, technology, tourism, culture, heritage and much more.

“By strengthening our ties with these cities, we are promoting Penang as the destination of choice for investors and tourists,” Yeoh told a press conference in Komtar today.

Yeoh explains to reporters on the committee’s objectives.

The Sister City and Friendship City Coordination Committee is chaired by Yeoh, while the committee members are comprised of Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang, Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP) president Datuk Rozali Mohamud, the Chief Minister’s political secretary Teh Lai Heng, the state Corporate Communications and Innovation Unit chief assistant secretary and a representative from the state Economic Planning Unit.
