PIFF 2019 to kick off with Street Food Festival this weekend

 

ARE you ready to tantalise your taste buds with Penang’s flavours? Then mark your calendars as the ‘Penang International Food Festival 2019 (PIFF) will be coming soon!

The 16-day long food adventure starting from April 13 till April 28 will be held at various locations in Penang, both the island and mainland.

PIFF will begin with Street Food Festival on April 13 and 14 while the Mini Festival, will start from 15 and end on April 19.

One hundred food vendors (island and mainland) will be participating at the Street Food Festival to offer famed hawker delights such as nasi kandar, mee goreng, hokkien mee and pasembur at Beach Street starting from 5pm to 11pm.

This year, Street Food Festival has got new festival highlights such as the Balik Pulau satay, laksa Janggus, Balik Pulau pao and Balik Pulau nutmeg juice and passion fruit juice as well as the ‘The Street Burger Corner’ which will have some of the best burger vendors in Penang.

Road closures to facilitate the festival will involve Lebuh Pantai, Lebuh Gereja, Gat Lebuh Gereja and Lebuh Bishop starting from 9pm on 12 April to 6am on 15 April.

Visitors can park their cars at the Kompleks Letak Kereta MBPP Lebuh Pantai, a three-storey car park along Lebuh Pantai.

Meanwhile, the Mini Festival is set to thrill food lovers at unique locations such as the breezy seaside, a vibrant back alley and a nostalgic bus depot.

The Mini Festival consists of five events such as Kopi ‘O’, Mini Curry Festival, RM2 Mini Food Festival, Gertak Sanggul Food Truck Rally and Mini Barbecue Feast.

Visitors can enjoy RM5 off each ride for two (2) Grab rides per user when travelling to and from PIFF’s main events such as the Street Food Festival (April 13 & 14), Taste of Penang (April 20 & 21) and Penang Seafood Galore (April 27 & 28) using the Grab promo code GRAB2PIFF19 (the promotion is valid for Grabpay payment method only).

“Other than a diverse array of street food, visitors to the Street Food Festival can expect fireworks display, funfair and live performances, making Street Food Festival an Instagrammable event for everyone.

“In line with the state government’s call to promote green initiatives, visitors are urged to minimise the usage of plastic and plastic straws and to bring containers or tiffin-carriers, as well as reusable cutleries. Plastic bags will not be provided at the festival.

“However, visitors can purchase PIFF merchandise at RM5 each which will be sold at the event. Visitors are encouraged to make a difference by refraining from littering the streets,” said state Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin at a press conference on April 7 at the Pocket Park off Beach Street.
