PENANG is a vibrant and flourishing city that embraces all kinds of arts, says state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin.

In his opening address during the ‘In The Name of Art’ Art Toys Exhibition 2.0 in Gurney Plaza yesterday, Yeoh was pleased to bring the global art scene to Penang.

“It is a great initiative to bring the crowd to see and feel the art, and understand the art showcased by our young talents.

Yeoh in his speech during the event in Gurney Plaza.

“It is a great day to explore the artworks of local artists and we hope to see more such events in the future.

“Penang’s Nepfix Studio has done an amazing job providing a platform for art designers from all over Malaysia to showcase their own collectibles that they have created.

“It is a limited edition that could not be found elsewhere,” he said.

Yeoh, who is advocating the importance of the art industry, said he would continue his efforts to integrate arts, culture, and heritage under the one roof of Creative Economy.

“We will strive to create more art spaces for young talents while providing the local and foreign visitors with an opportunity to witness the creative excellence of our state through exhibitions, workshops and events,” he said.

Yeoh expressed his gratitude to Gurney Plaza for its commitment to promoting the state’s creative industry.

The exhibition in Gurney Plaza is packed with people yesterday.

Air Putih assemblyman Lim Guan Eng, who was also present, said Penang could be developed to become one of the creative centres in the country.

“We hope more happening events can take place in Penang,” he said.

Among those present were Senator Lim Hui Ying, Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng, Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim, and Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Connie Tan.
