Czech Republic hopes to set up a consulate in Penang

THE Czech Republic is looking forward to setting up a consulate in Penang next year.

Its ambassador to Malaysia Milan Hupcej told Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow that the country was planning to set up a consulate in the state this year, but due to some technical difficulties, it did not materialise.

“Nevertheless, we are confident that we can open it by next year.

“After all, the setting up of a consulate in Penang is crucial to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the Czech Republic and Penang,” he said during a courtesy call on Chow in Komtar today.

Hupcej said the setting up of the consulate in Penang would also serve as a testament of strong commitment by the Czech Republic to further develop and to expand its trade, investment and cultural corporation in Penang and Malaysia.

Chow welcomed the determination by Czech Republic to open a consulate in the state.

“We look forward to fostering trade relations and exploring new markets together,” he said.

Also present were Poland honorary consul in Penang Datuk Seri Suppiah Manikam and Ukraine honorary consul in Penang Datuk Seri Chuah Kim Seah.
