Don’t give up fight against Covid-19, CM Chow urges the people

CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow today urged everyone to remain resilient and to not give up on the battle against the Covid-19 global pandemic.

In a public address via Facebook Live on his FB page today, Chow told Penangites to stay strong in this unfinished struggle.

He believes that many have been facing uncertainties and difficulties ever since the movement control order (MCO) entered its second phase on April 1. The first phase began from March 18 to March 31 before it was extended from April 1 to April 14.

“Many have wanted to surrender in this battle as they would probably be feeling tired to carry on the fight against this virus outbreak.

“I could not deny that I have this thought too but I remain calm.

“As a leader, I have a huge responsibility to shoulder for all the Penangites.

“Whatever the future scenario unfolds, it should not dominate and further weaken our spirit in the fight against the outbreak,” he said.

Chow then called for undivided support to be rendered to all the frontliners for working tirelessly during this challenging time.

During this MCO period, Chow said there were many thoughts running through his mind on how the future would turn out.

He said he could not imagine the scenario after the outbreak.

“The outbreak started from an individual before spreading to every country in every corner of the world. In such a short period of time, humans are facing an unpredictable future ahead.

“In terms of the country’s economy, what does the future hold for entrepreneurs and companies that have been operating all this while? The future is unpredictable for the business world and economic sector as a whole.

“Lastly, what will happen to the business world after the outbreak? Certainly, there will be businesses that will lose their relevance this time.

Chow said he hoped that everything would resume to normal as soon as possible and that the people would also continue to break the chain of transmission by staying at home.

Before ending his speech, Chow extended his Good Friday greetings to the Christian community.
