THE construction of two fast-food outlets in front of the Petron petrol station along Jalan Air Itam is not expected to cause major traffic congestion once completed, as both developments are designed with a drive-through–focused concept, said Air Putih assemblyman Lim Guan Eng.

The two upcoming outlets are McDonald’s and Texas Chicken.

Lim said both outlets will be equipped with an 80-metre designated drive-through access road to help ease traffic flow, particularly along the main road.

“Combined, the two outlets will provide around 70 parking bays for cars. While there will be dine-in facilities, seating will be limited as both outlets are designed primarily to cater to drive-through customers,” he told reporters during a site visit today.

Also present were Penang Island City Council (MBPP) Engineering Department deputy director Zainuddin Mohamad Shariff, project management representative Datuk Ang Jek Seng, and project architect Lim Yaw Hooi.

Zainuddin added that the traffic impact assessment (TIA) for the project has already been approved by MBPP.

It is learnt that both fast-food outlets are expected to be opened to the public within the year.
