Early Hari Raya Haji cheer for 450 families

A TOTAL of 450 families in Kepala Batas and Tasek Gelugor received an early present for Hari Raya Haji when Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow handed out a hamper to each of them at the Village Community Management Council (MPKK) office in Kepala Batas today.

Hari Raya Haji falls on July 31 this year.

Chow commended his special coordinating officer Lay Hock Peng, and Kepala Batas and Tasek Gelugor MPKK members for organising the event for the benefit of the residents there.

“Mr Lay Hock Peng and the service centre have organised a number of programmes for the residents. This (presentation of gift hampers) is a very good initiative which encourages a better understanding of the community as well as the issues faced by them,” Chow said in his speech.

“The Penang government supports all state assemblymen, MPKKs and Members of Parliament in their services to the people.

“Although there was a change of government at the federal level, the whole Penang government machinery from the exco (executive council) to the MPPK in every constituency is committed to serving the Penang people.”

He added that it was not easy to organise such a gathering in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, he stressed that everyone must observe the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in order to overcome the spread of the virus infections.

Chow also thanked the Federal and state agencies for helping the state government to tackle problems arising from the Covid-19 crisis.

Lay said they hoped that the hamper presentation ceremony today for all races would further strengthen the harmony amongst the people.

It is learnt that the hamper distribution was collaborated with Masjid Jamek Bakar Kapor, Masjid Pantai Kamloon, Masjid Simpang 3 Tasek Gelugor, Surau Permatang Kerai Besar, Surau Nurul Huda Permatang Bertam dan Surau Ijtihad Asy-Syarif Permatang Saga.

Also present were Senator Lim Hui Ying, Lay, Seberang Perai City Council councillor Ooi Yong Wooi, MPKK members, representatives from the north Seberang Perai District and police, and some mosque and surau leaders.
