TECHDOME Penang held a Deepavali celebration for 80 pupils from two schools at Komtar today.

This is the third consecutive year Techdome Penang has organised the celebration since it was set up in 2016.

Bagan Dalam assemblyman M. Satees, who represented Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy, thanked Techdome for playing host and encouraged the pupils from SJK(T) Ladang Krian and SJK (T) Perai to gain scientific knowledge.

“Over 200,000 people have visited Techdome since 2016. It’s one of the attractions in the northern region. I hope the pupils today will take the opportunity to learn more about science and technology,” Satees said in his speech.

Also present were Techdome Penang chief executive officer Dr Khong Yoon Loong, Raj Sports Printing marketing manager R. Murali, RS Superstore managing director SU Pathmanaben, Tamarai Women’s Development Association chairman S. Lakshmi, Techdome operations manager K. Sivakumar, Techdome education & exhibits manager Sean Lee Kuan Shern and Techdome marketing manager Oun Sui Leng.

“As you know, Techdome was established with the support of the state government to encourage the study of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). It is hoped that the students will benefit and go on to chart their career path,” Satees said.

The pupils’ visit was sponsored by Ramasamy, Datok Keramat assemblyman Jagdeep Singh and Satees.

Khong also gave a brief lesson on light for the pupils as Deepavali is a celebration of light triumphing over darkness.

Khong said for science to progress, there must be three ingredients – freedom of expression, equal opportunity without race or gender issues and diversity.

“We appreciate and respect all our different cultures that make us unique. You will appreciate Malaysia more when you travel abroad because we’re multicultural and have different languages,” Khong said.

Activities involving 3Ds and art craft were also organised for the pupils.
