Eletronic firm reinvests RM1 billion in Penang plant

HOTAYI Electronic (M) Sdn Bhd celebrated its grand opening today with a RM1 billion investment at its well-equipped 350,000sq ft production facility in Batu Kawan, Penang.

The company now employs 850 people.

Hotayi’s new plant, which adopts the concept of Industry 4.0 in its operations, hires skilled workers and cultivates new engineering talents.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who officiated the ceremony, said Hotayi chose to reinvest and deepen its roots in the state like many other companies.

“I was told that Hotayi has brought the latest technologies such as car plate and facial recognitions, rainwater harvesting and building management system into its facilities design.

“I am proud to highlight that based on Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA’s) latest figures, Penang has attracted RM8.8 billion of total approved manufacturing investments from January to March 2019. Penang leads other states in foreign direct investment (FDI) as well.

“I must give credit to Hotayi on its building design that comprises smart, green and nature elements as well,” Chow said in his speech.

“Hotayi has grown tremendously since 1994 and the company has recognised Penang as an ideal location to embrace its next growth phase.”

Hotayi managing director Goh Guek Eng added that Hotayi was providing its highest excellent manufacturing services in Penang as well as to the global market.

“Hotayi provides a fantastic, comfortable working environment, concealed car park and many wonderful views,” she said.

It is learnt that Hotayi may expand its phase two in one to two years.

Also were present were Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng and his wife Betty Chew, Penang Island City Council mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang, Seberang Perai Municipal Council president Datuk Rozali Mohamud, several assemblymen, heads of various departments and agencies and other invited guests.
