RESIDENTS in the flood-prone housing area in Taman Bunga Raya and its vicinity can look forward to having their long-standing issue resolved once the flood mitigation project there is completed.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who visited the housing area under the Sungai Puyu state constituency, was made to understand that the floods have been a perennial problem there.

He said the two phases of the flood mitigation project would help to tackle the problem facing the residents in the low-lying area.

“For phase one, the RM1.176 million project is expected to be completed on Jan 13 next year. The ongoing works started on Jan 14 this year and are now progressing well.

“Some of the works involved the upgrading of drainage system in the housing area, installation of a box culvert, and the construction of a new pump house.

“During a meeting last month, the local council Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) had proposed the phase two flood mitigation project to be carried out.
