AFTER three years, the Penang International Halal Expo and Conference (Pihec) is returning and will be held from July 1 to 3 at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre.

This 11th Penang International Halal Expo and Conference (Pihec) will bring together some of the best manufacturers and buyers in the Southeast Asia region and beyond.

Penang Halal International (PHI) (formerly known as Penang International Halal Hub) chief executive officer Fazil Irwan Som said that business participants would be able to maximise their networking through Pihec 2022’s business matching platform.

“A total of 161 booths representing various business sectors in the Halal industry will be available for the visitors to engage.

“Besides that, the Pihec 2022 will also host panel discussions on post-Covid business readjustments, such as digital adoption, sustainable technology, food security, and others,” he said.

Penang Entrepreneurial Development, Trade and Industry Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain said: “Pihec 2022 provides an opportunity for the participants and visitors to thrive and spur the Halal industry and ecosystem.”

“We anticipate about 15,000 visitors throughout the three days,” Abdul Halim, who is also the PHI Board of Directors chairman, told a media conference in Komtar today.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was present, said Penang has been exploring the Halal industry for more than a decade ago.

“Penang is known for its electrical and electronics (E&E) industry. The state’s manufacturing sector and export performances are doing very well. Nevertheless, Penang must look beyond the E&E sector.

“The Halal industry will continue to grow. Organising Pihec 2022 with the theme, ‘Building Resilience and Sustainability Towards Stronger Growth’, is timely.

“We welcome visitors from the Southeast Asia region and other parts of the world to Pihec 2022.

“There is much to discuss to revitalise and rejuvenate the industries, in particular the Halal industry,” he said.
