Entries for Penang Bridge Marathon extended

LATECOMERS to the Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) 2019 have been given a second chance to take part as the organisers have decided to extend the registration deadline to Aug 15.

“This is due to an overwhelming response from runners and marathon enthusiasts since we unveiled the medal design two weeks ago. To date, we have 23,000 runners registered for the event,” PBIM chairman Yeoh Soon Hin told a press conference in Komtar this morning.

Also present was PBIM deputy chairman Lau Keng Ee.

Yeoh urged those interested in registering to do so immediately as they would not entertain any late entries.

“There are three categories, namely Full Marathon (42km), Half Marathon (21km) and 10km Run, and the registration fees for late bird (Aug 1 – 15) are RM150 for all categories. This will be the final year we will have the 10km Run.

“Only participants of the Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km Run who completed the race within their respective qualifying time at 7 hours (Full Marathon), 3 hours and 30 mins (Half Marathon) and 1 hour 30 mins (10km) will be eligible for the finisher T-shirt and medal.

“This is in line with PBIM effort to motivate runners and ensure a more competitive environment for the participants,” Yeoh commented.

Named as the ‘Largest Marathon in Malaysia’ by the Malaysian Book of Records for four consecutive years, the PBIM 2019 will be held at the Queensbay Mall car park on Nov 24.

PBIM has placed Penang as one of the leading destinations for sports tourism in the region.
