IN preparation for the ‘Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2019’, mini paper craft balloons are lit-up like lanterns and are being displayed at the three white arches of the Esplanade right opposite the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce building along Light Street.
The display of these eye-catching lanterns is part of the gimmicks termed as ‘The Path’ to promote the upcoming hot air balloon fiesta.
This was first initiated in December 2015 at the same place (Esplanade) to promote the 2016 hot air balloon event and last year this also took place at the Butterworth Art Walk for the mainland folks.
At the Esplanade, the lanterns will be lit up starting from Dec 14 until next year March from 7.30 pm till midnight while at the Butterworth Art Walk it will be from Dec 30 till next year March (7.30 pm – 12 am).
Exco member for Tourism Development, Heritage, Culture & Arts Yeoh Soon Hin urged the public to visit ‘The Path’ and enjoy the sight of the beautifully lit mini paper craft balloons made by kindergarten and primary school children as well as take memorable photographs on the spot.
“The attractive display of balloons and lights will remain until next year March for the public to come and take photos when they visit the Esplanade.
“The Path of Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta is basically a platform to showcase children’s creativity and at the same time a space for the public to enjoy the artwork and have a jolly good time with their loved ones whilst taking photographs,” said Yeoh at the launching of The Path on Dec 14.
The Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2019 will be held for the 5th time in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration which falls on Feb 9 and 10 which will see the participation of fifteen international and local hot air balloons at Padang Polo (7 am – 9.30 pm).
