In less than week, the much-awaited ‘Penang Celebrates: Chap Goh Meh with a Bang @ Esplanade” will be in town.

State Tourism, Heritage, Culture and Arts Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the event is organised to celebrate the Chinese New Year holiday seasons with locals and tourists alike.

“This event provides an ideal way to celebrate the festivity with family members and loved ones. There will be plenty of fun. Exciting activities and entertainment have been lined up for all ages.

“Penang Celebrates: Chap Goh Meh with a Bang @ Esplanade, is organised by the Penang state executive council for Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage (PETACH) office.

“The event is supported by Astro Radio, Mediacorp and Poh Kong. The event features four renowned artists: Bonnie Loo and Richie Koh from Mediacorp and Joe and Vivian from Go Xuan, Astro Radio,” Yeoh told in a press conference in Komtar today.

“One of most exciting highlights of the event is the spectacular musical fireworks display, brought to you by PETACH office to mark the end of the memorable evening.

“Family-friendly activities will be available throughout the event, such as the Poh Kong Fortune Pool, stage games, and the tossing of Mandarin oranges,” he said.

He added that Poh Kong would be giving out a total of RM10,000 worth of prizes.

“Penang Celebrates: Chap Goh Meh with a Bang@ Esplanade, is the third event organised under the “Penang Celebrates” series.

“In December last year (2018), PETACH office had successfully organised the first “Penang Celebrates: Christmas with Jazz” event at Gurney Paragon Mall.

“Penang is a famous cultural melting pot and we are indeed a state of many festivals. We have all sorts of festivals and cultural events throughout the year but we seldom capitalise on the advantage,” Yeoh told.

“That is why I started the idea of having a series of events, placed under the umbrella of “Penang Celebrates”.

“The brand “Penang Celebrates” is my initiative and effort to build a name for Penang as the must-visit state in Malaysia.

“Visitors can be sure to gain cultural and heritage experience during their visit here,” Yeoh said.

“I hope that all of you will take this opportunity to enjoy Penang Celebrates: Chap Goh Meh with a Bang @ Esplanade,” Yeoh added.

Coordinating officer Grace Teoh Koon Gee listed the fun-filled programmes which include attractive jewellery prizes to be given away to the winners.

Grace added the night would be filled with music and multicultural performances, before the breathtaking fireworks display between 10.15pm and 10.30pm on Feb 19.

“Jalan Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah will be closed on Feb 19, from midnight to 11.59pm.

She also told visitors to use alternative roads such as Bishop Street and Church Street to avoid traffic congestion.

“Visitors can enjoy a variety of street food, magic shows and cultural shows at the event.

“Don’t forget to take selfies and hastag “Penang Celebrates” when you upload photos to the social media, “she added.
