COACHES can help to develop leaders in the community or realise their full potential.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said this when he launched the International Association of Coaching Penang Chapter and a public talk on ‘Coaching Awareness’ held at the Eastern and Oriental Hotel in George Town on July 22.

“The IAC Penang Chapter is set up with idea of encouraging and enabling coaches to develop the coaching community and culture in Penang.

“I am glad to learn that IAC Penang Chapter is keen to give back to society through coaching. It is also very encouraging to see the Penang team actively participating and supporting the theme of empowering people.

“Here, the community of coaches can be a force for good towards the active and vibrant civil society that we have in Penang to support the development of the state as well as to achieve our Penang2030 vision,” Soon stressed.

Also present were IAC Global President-Elect Shan Moorthi, IAC Penang Chapter Lead Lim Lay Pin and Penang Women Development Centre chief executive officer Ong Bee Ling.

Lim said the IAC Penang Chapter charter aimed at creating a forum to enable coaches to interact with like-minded individuals to share views and opinions on developing the coaching culture and community in Penang.

He said the chapter also wanted to engage the local coaching community, inspire and empower them to be leaders to make a difference in the community.
