THE Setia SPICE Aquatic Centre in Bayan Lepas can reopen its doors to the public beginning July 1, following the announcement by the Federal Government.

Penang Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said that the centre had taken proactive measures to ensure that the standard operating procedure (SOP) is followed.

“After conducting an inspection, I feel that the Setia SPICE Aquatic Centre has achieved a 100% compliance rate.

“The centre has done a great job to ensure that everything is in order before the operation resumes on July 1.

“I will be visiting other premises in the next couple of days to check out their preparations,” he told the media after visiting the aquatic centre on June 25.

The Setia SPICE Aquatic Centre has an Olympic-sized swimming pool, various water sports facilities and a fitness centre.

Soon said many swimmers, especially those in the Penang Sukma team, had to stop their training routine for months due to the movement control order (MCO).

“They trained and kept themselves fit at their respective homes for the past three months,” he said.

The Federal Government had recently announced that the public as well as private pools at hotels, gated residences, apartments and condominiums would be resumed beginning July 1.

Soon said the state was pleased with the announcement to allow swimming pool and water sports activities to be carried out.

Wahoo’s Swim School director Thomas Lee, who was present, thanked Soon his presence and compliments.

Lee expresses his gratitude to Soon for the praise given.

He said they would ensure that everything is done smoothly before the pool is reopened to the public next week.

Setia SPICE Aquatic Centre general manager Ferdinand Sibert said that any further announcement would be made at its Facebook page from time to time.

Also present was Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP) director Harry Chai.
