NEARLY 5,000 Year One pupils, pre-school children, school teachers and staff members in Bayan Baru parliamentary constituency will receive reusable and single-use face masks.

Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin handed over the face masks to representatives of all 27 schools in his constituency due to the current Covid-19 pandemic on Friday (July 17).

The 27 schools have a total of 2,977 Year One pupils and pre-school children and 1,916 school teachers and staff members.

He noted that all schools in the country are scheduled to resume in full swing by next week.

Therefore, Sim said the masks for the pupils and teachers were given at the right time.

“As far as I am concerned, the pandemic is not over yet as there are still active cases in our country.

“To avoid a second wave of virus, we need to take extra precautionary measures by wearing masks and practising social distancing.

“All these measures are important to contain the virus.

“We emphasise the masks to be given to pre-school children and Year One pupils as they are more vulnerable to the virus due to their age group

“That is why we can’t take things for granted but strive to do our part,” Sim said before distributing the masks to the schools’ representatives at a hawker complex in Bayan Baru on Friday.

He said the face mask distribution was made possible by the public and stakeholders who contributed a total of RM52,700.

Those who wish to donate can send their money to Pusat Khidmat Bayan Baru via Maybank account number 557054611829.
