PREMISES owners need to be careful and cautious when using electrical equipment in their house to prevent fire from happening.
Padang Lalang assemblyman Chong Eng said that most of the fire mishaps occurred due to the lack of awareness and carelessness.
“For example, we often forget to turn off electrical appliances when not in use.
“This is dangerous and risky as it may cause a fire.
“It is important for people to know the danger of fire as it may cause death,” Chong Eng said in her speech during the fire safety awareness programme with firefighters at Taman Permai Jaya in Bukit Mertajam today.
Also present was Bandar Perda Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Hadzi Mohamed Yusuf.
Hadzi said nowadays it is crucial for people to own fire-fighting equipment to minimise the risk.
“Homes should be installed with smoke detectors and owners should keep a fire extinguisher too.
“In case anything happens, they can prepare themselves by having a fire extinguisher on stand-by,” he said.
He said the fire safety awareness programme at Taman Permai Jaya was aimed at teaching participants the proper way of using fire extinguishers.
