Friends of Childhood Cancer Northern Malaysia (Foccan) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting children battling cancer and their families by donating two air-conditioning units to Penang General Hospital.
The two units were donated for use in the hospital’s children’s activity room and Medical Social Work Department, respectively, to provide a more comfortable environment for young patients, their families and hospital staff.
The donation was presented by Foccan president Maznah Tayib to Penang General Hospital director Dr Goh Hin Kwang during a visit to the hospital’s paediatric oncology ward.
The event was witnessed by Foccan patron Yang Mulia Toh Puan Raja Datuk Seri Utama Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah.
In a statement, Maznah said the contribution was part of Foccan’s ongoing efforts to create a more comfortable and conducive environment for children undergoing cancer treatment and their families.
“For us at Foccan, the fight against cancer is not just about medical treatment. The comfort, emotional well-being and overall welfare of the children and their families must also be given due attention.
“They spend so much time in the hospital, and we want to ensure that the spaces they use are as comfortable as possible,” she said.
Maznah expressed hope that the air-conditioning unit installed in the children’s activity room would provide a more pleasant space for young patients to play, rest and participate in various activities during their hospital stays.
Meanwhile, the air-conditioning unit donated to the Medical Social Work Department is expected to improve the working environment for hospital staff while providing greater comfort for patients and their family members seeking assistance with welfare matters and social support.
“We hope this small contribution will make a big difference to the children and their families.
“When a child is fighting cancer, the entire family goes through a long and challenging journey. They need our support,” she said.
Maznah also expressed her appreciation to Penang General Hospital for its continued cooperation and commitment to providing the best possible care for children battling cancer.
She said that, guided by its spirit of ‘Together We Fight Childhood Cancer’, Foccan would continue working closely with hospitals, the government, the corporate sector and the community to ensure that young cancer patients and their families receive the support they need throughout their treatment journey.
