CHEW Jetty is an old settlement with more than a century, rich in historical-culture, heritage structures and its living experience.
With thoughtfully curated live drama as well as interesting story telling, ‘Folklore by the Sea’ will take the audience back in time to the good old days when life was simpler and the sea provided a source of sustenance.
“Our main objective is to preserve and ptomote the heritage, arts and cultural integrity. We hope our stories can be heard through different interesting ways, and be passing down to our descendants as well as the public.
“We believe these new performances will be able to enhance the knowledge of the people to understand us more in depth, not only our history but also the living experience we have,” assemplymember for Pengkalan Kota, Daniel Gooi Zi Sen told a press conference when he officiated an arts and cultural platform at Chew Jetty this afternoon.
Folklore by the Sea, an arts and cultural platform managed by Evoct Resources was founded by Chan Kok Leong and Chew Siew Pheng.
It is strategically located in the heart of Chew Jetty, one of the UNESCO sites in Georgetown, Penang.
“The materialization of Folklore by the Sea will go beyond just being a platform for live shows and also a venue provider that creates opportunities of various artistic offerings, educational programmes to nuture new talents as well as outreach programmes to promote Penang heritage culture in ways that elevate its profile locally and internationally,” Gooi commented.
The Mural @ Folklore by the Sea is located at The Wall at Folklore by the Sea at 59a, Chew Jetty, Weld Quay, 10300 Penang.
It depicts about life at clan jetties was put up 49-year-old Singaporean artist, Yip Yew Chong who loves art, travel, nature, videography and photography.
Yip started to paint murals three years ago. He has painted more than 50 murals till today, with a few murals in Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur.
