THE Penang government will organise a ‘Republic Food Carnival’ to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in sustaining their businesses, especially for those who are facing economic uncertainty due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Happening from April 1 to 4, the food carnival will take place at the parking compound in Tesco Extra, Seberang Jaya.

State Entrepreneurial Development, Trade and Industry Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain said the four-day carnival is also a joint collaboration with Avatar Event Management and Eyenur International Academy Sdn Bhd.

“The food carnival will serve as an ideal platform to gather all the SME entrepreneurs in one place to spur the local economy.

“Various programmes also have been arranged during the four-day carnival such as product demonstration, free entrepreneur clinic / workshop, fashion show competition and many others.

“Popular celebrity entrepreneurs such as Raja Ema, Shidi Data, Erry Putra, Nadia Kesuma, Syed Ali and many more are expected to participate as well in the food carnival,” Abdul Halim told a press conference in Komtar yesterday (March 19).

Abdul Halim said he expects more than 5,000 visitors at the food carnival.

“So, I would like to urge everyone to fully adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb the spread of Covid-19,” he said.

According to Abdul Halim, any SME entrepreneur who is interested to take part in the food carnival can still do so by calling 019-2265894 (Sya) and 012-2860304 (Zurilalili).
