Frontliners honoured for hard work and selflessness

THEIR sacrifices, perseverance and commitment while serving as frontliners in Penang are recognised and honoured.

They braced various challenges under the scorching hot sun, and during rainy days and disasters to serve the people without any grumbling.

Their hard work are not forgotten after a total of seven Civil Defence Force personnel were bestowed awards during the investiture ceremony at Dewan Sri Pinang to mark the 82nd birthday of Penang Governor Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas.

Among those who received the Pingat Jasa Masyarakat (PJM) awards was Lieutenant (PA) Mohd Azhari Mahmud, 40.

Accompanied by his beloved wife Mahfuzah Othman, Mohd Azhari was delighted with the award given to him.

“It’s my first time receiving such a prestigious recognition from head of the state.

“I couldn’t imagine that I could be standing proud here today to receive this PJM award after serving 14 years in the force.

“During my service, I have encountered many obstacles and experiences. Of course, I have been involved in various operations that were carried out during disasters,” said Mohd Azhari, a Penangite.

He is currently serving in the central Seberang Perai district. Prior to this, he had worked in the state Civil Defence Headquarters headquarters and Kepala Batas unit office.

“Thanks again for the recognition given. It’s an award to every personnel in our force,” he added.

Another recipient Lieutenant (PA) Muhammad Zul Izzi Zulkifli, 34, described the award as a symbol of gratitude to the whole team.

“We work tirelessly on the ground to serve the people better. When any mishap happens, we will be called in to facilitate to ensure everything works smoothly.

“One of the most challenging experiences that I faced was the flash floods that occurred in Penang four years ago.

“It’s very challenging and yet fulfilling when I was able to provide my assistance to the people,” said Muhammad Zul, who too has been serving the force for 14 years.

Another PJM recipient was Bukit Tambun’s Village Community Management Council (MPKK) secretary Teh Joo Teoh, 36, who was in cloud nine after being conferred the award.

“It’s a motivation for me. At least, the society would know us better and value what we have done.

“I would say this is a good beginning and recognition for me and I will strive my best to assist the people in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, S. Sugeindhiran, 32, was overjoyed with the PJM award that he received.

The Datok Keramat’s MPKK secretary told Buletin Mutiara that it was a ‘dream come true’ for him.

“A special thanks to Datok Keramat assemblyman Jagdeep Singh Deo and his entire team for guiding me all this while.
